Postdoctoral Position in Operations Research
The Operations Research Group in the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University seeks candidates for a Postdoctoral Position in Operations Research for a period of up to two years beginning in Fall 2016. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Operations Research or a related field, and a demonstrated potential for outstanding research.
The specialty of the candidate may be in the broad field of mathematical programming. Areas of possible interest include optimization, constraint programming, data mining, machine learning, computational game theory, but are not restricted to this list.
The ideal candidate is expected to create and enhance cross-campus research activities and, possibly, to contribute to the school's course offerings at the doctoral level.

Postdoctoral Research Position in Operations Research
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in Operations Research at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University to start in Summer 2016. This will be a one-year appointment, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
The successful candidate will be working closely with Dr. Fatma Kılınç-Karzan on an on-going NSF-funded research project regarding low-complexity relaxations for nonconvex optimization problems with conic structure. Such problems are frequently used in extracting useful information from high-dimensional data, and also are critical components of operational problems in many fields facing uncertainty. This research aims to develop novel models and analysis to address key trade-offs on relaxation quality and computational tractability on a diverse set of problems. The final objective is then to facilitate the analysis and design of efficient and scalable algorithms for these problems.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and creative individual with a PhD in Operations Research, Mathematics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline completed by August 2016 at the latest. A strong background in convex analysis, convex optimization, and/or discrete optimization is required. Specialization on one or more of optimization under uncertainty, machine learning, and statistics will add strength to a qualified candidate’s application. Expertise in one or more of optimization software and scientific computing languages Matlab, C/C++, Java, and R is desirable.
