Hometown: Plum Borough (eastern Pittsburgh suburb)

Where I Live
Friendship Park. I started looking via craigslist, and ended up finding my place as I walked around Friendship (looking at a couple craigslist postings)
Best Place To Eat
Sausalido (on liberty ave in Bloomifield). Reasonable prices given the great food and good portions you get.
also fan of:
- Piper's Pub (southside) large selection of drinks and great pub fare
- Point Brugge (point breeze) GREAT mussels
- Mineo's Pizza (prefer Mt. Lebanon location because their thick crust pizza is better)
Best Off-Campus Activity
I am a big fan of Phipp's Conservatory. They change the display multiple times a year (the Christmas display is awesome).
Best Grocery Store
Trader Joe's all the way. Reasonable prices for quality food.
My Gym
X-Shadyside. It is an ok facility, but with the student rate it is manageable.
Top Attractions
- Phipps Conservatory
- Andy Warhol Museum
- Carnegie Museum of Art
- Sports Game (Pirates, Penguins, Steelers)
- Pittsburgh Zoo
Phipp's offers a great (and very close) botanical twist on local activities. The multiple displays throughout the year always offer something new.
The combination of the Carnegie Art and Natural History museums can be a great break. There are changing exhibits as well as the standard displays, like the recently updated dinosaur exhibit.
Like the Carnegie Museums, The Andy Warhol Museum offers a local cultural experience that is familiar, yet new. Most people recognize the trademark Campbell's can artwork, but do not know much about Warhol (and this museum also has changing exhibits throughout the year).
My Recommendation
EXPLORE THE NEIGHBORHOODS OF PITTSBURGH! There is so much more to the city than Shadyside/Squirrel Hill. Try the broadway shows, the concert halls, sports games (Pitt Basketball, Steelers, Pens and even the Pirates...fireworks nights are great!)
