Ariel Thomas, President

Carrie “Ariel” Thomas is a MBA candidate at the Tepper School of Business concentrating in strategy, marketing, and organizational behavior. She has been designated as both a Consortium and Forte Fellow and serves as the President for the Tepper Black Business Association and VP of Marketing for Tepper Golf Club. Her career interests are focused on in Healthcare/BioPharma consulting.

Prior to Tepper, Ariel worked as a legal and business intern at the Capital Group Companies working alongside legal counsel to eradicate intellectual property infringements and served as the Chair of domestic and international programming, communication and fundraising between the Capital Group and Grameen Foundation with the aim of increasing international microfinance development.

Ariel received a B.A. as a duel major in International Relations and Global Business from the University of Southern California.

Cassy Cortez, Vice President

Cassy Cortez is the Vice President of Black Business Association. She also serves on the board for the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital club as the Vice President. Cassy graduated from Harvey Mudd College with a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering. Prior to Tepper, she worked as a product development scientist for various medical device startups. She is pursuing the Entrepreneurship Track at Tepper along with a concentration in Marketing. Cassy is a Bikram Yoga enthusiast, a fan of fusion world cuisines, and an avid concert-goer.

Joseph Smith, VP of Finance

Joseph (“Joe”) Smith is a MBA candidate at the Tepper School of Business concentrating in finance, operations research, and strategy. He serves as Portfolio Manager for the Tepper Opportunity Fund and aspires to become a portfolio manager for a quantitatively-driven investment management firm. Prior to Tepper, Joe worked at Russell Investments where he served as an analyst doing asset allocation research, portfolio construction & optimization design, and risk management research. He later joined Russell ETFs where he was responsible for developing quantitative indexing strategies implemented as exchange-traded funds (ETFs). He later joined Charles Schwab Investment Management serving in product management for the Schwab ETFs fund family.

Joe received a B.S. in Economics from the University of Washington, is a CFA Level II candidate, and holds memberships with the CFA Society of San Francisco, CFA Society of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh chapter of the Quantitative Work Alliance for Applied Finance, Education, and Wisdom (QWAFAFEW).

Monique Hutcherson, VP of Education

Monique Hutcherson graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation, she joined General Electric's Power & Water (GE) business in their Commercial Leadership Program. After graduating from the program, she became an Account Manager. In this role, Monique focused on value delivery through cost-saving and energy-reducing projects for customers in the power generation industry. After three years at GE, Monique joined the Advisory Board Company (ABC) as a Senior Partnership Manager. There, she managed contract renewals totaling $5-8M of revenue for hospitals and health systems. Monique joined Tepper after spending two years at ABC to pursue an MBA with a focus in Marketing, Strategy and General Management.

Jahmackonen “Jamo” Benoit, VP of Alumni Affairs

Jahmackonen (Jamo) Benoit hails from the Commonwealth of Dominica. He is a graduate of The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, where he earned a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Jamo went on to work for The Dominica State College as a Lecturer of Physics. After a year in education, he spent 2 years in Telecoms Regulation before moving to the North-East US. There he worked as an IT Project Management Consultant at a global investment bank.

At Tepper, Jamo is focused on Strategy, Technology, Finance and Entrepreneurship. He is also very passionate about sustainability, environmental issues and social equality.
