BaseCamp

Launched in 2011 to an enthusiastic reception by students and faculty alike, this comprehensive orientation gives full-time MBA students a head start in the arena of academic preparation, networking and career planning Our aim is to ensure that as students begin their Mini 1 coursework, they have an integrated understanding of all facets of business so that they are prepared for classes, summer internship interviews and student club activities.

IMMERSION

The impressive scope of BaseCamp is marked by the depth and breadth of knowledge you’ll be receiving. Unlike many B-school orientations, BaseCamp does not focus on campus directions, lockers and meet-and-greets (although students do get plenty of exposure to their new home). Rather, our aim is to help you quickly acclimate, so that academic and career planning is accelerated. There are workshops, networking sessions with fellow classmates, faculty and alumni along with several “Integrated View Of Business” sessions that detail how the fundamental disciplines integrate in business environments.

NETWORKING

We’re the smallest of the Top 20 B-schools, and one of the many advantages of our small size is that everybody will know you. From professors to classmates, you will be known as a key member of our community. While we like numbers, we don’t think our students should be treated like one. There are no cohorts and no large auditoriums of hundreds of students. Alongside the networking, BaseCamp sessions on ethics, diversity and working in teams, as well as off-site team building activities and community service projects.

LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNICATION

We believe leadership and communication are valuable assets for leveraging the rare ability to address complex, unprecedented business issues. Beginning with BaseCamp and continuing throughout Year One and Year Two of the MBA Curriculum, the Accelerate Program, hosted by the Accelerate Leadership Center, will guide you to strengthen your leadership and communication skills through personalized leadership assessments, training workshops, one-on-one coaching sessions, and by providing a framework for you to develop and execute a personalized leadership action plan.

INTEGRATED VIEW OF BUSINESS

The Tepper MBA program is a popular choice for career switchers. We understand the desire and the components of career changes and ensure that broad knowledge is a component part of your career planning. BaseCamp features modules that explore the various functional arenas (operations, finance, entrepreneurship, strategy, marketing,) and how they integrate within companies and organizations. These modules assist in career planning, with a broad understanding of the numerous options for internships, employment, companies, functions and roles.

As a full-time MBA student, you’ll kick off your education with a unique, month-long orientation program called BaseCamp.

Each Year, BaseCamp offers two signature events: Team Day and Community Day.

Team Day

In the wooded setting of Camp Guyasuta, students traverse the zipline, climb ropes, and solve problems together during Team Day, a highlight of the month-long orientation process for the Tepper School of Business. Students overcome their fears, work together and create instant bonds during this day of outdoor adventure.

Community Day

Our students give back – the “Tepper Cares” initiative spearheads a variety of community outreach projects throughout the year, kicking off with a full-day project during BaseCamp

BaseCamp Schedule
