The unfortunate reality of human psychology is that we are seldom happy with the things that we have, and the things we once loved seem to lose favor with us over time. Professor Galak discussed the psychological background of these problems and provided some remedies for how we can avoid them.
Dr. Jay Apt, Professor of Technology; Executive Director of Carnegie Mellon Electricity Industry Center presented to alumni at Reunion 2013. Energy has always been a boom and bust sector. Prof. Apt discusses some of the background on energy trends, as well as summarizing some of the Tepper School's research on renewable electricity.

Now top executives for Black Rock and Kelly Services, onetime classmates Ann Marie Petach and Patricia Little (both MSIA ’84) reflected on the most important network of all – friendship – as they spoke to MBA students as part of the W.L. Mellon Speaker Series. Petach and Little met in the first few days of their MBA education and have maintained their friendship for more than 30 years.
DeLyle Bloomquist, president of Global Chemical Business at Tata Chemicals Ltd., described how he rose through the ranks of the chemical industry through hard work and by taking on “the bad and the ugly” jobs that everyone else shunned. He’s a legend in Silicon Valley. Ray Lane, the former president of Oracle Corp., is now managing partner of the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byer. Lane advised Tepper School of Business students on how to get funding for a startup.
J. Edward Coleman arrived at the helm of Unisys in 2008 with a deep appreciation of how quickly the market changes in the technology industry. His leadership has transformed the company into a more nimble competitor within the IT sector, in part, by focusing on strengths and cutting costs.
