It’s true---Pittsburgh rocks after dark. When the sun goes down, the city’s bars, dance clubs, casinos, coffeehouses, and live music venues kick into gear.

If you prefer to unwind after a long day over a quality microbrew, the Church Brew Works and Penn Brewery serve hand-crafted year-round and seasonal beers alongside menus that feature standard pub and German fare. More casual drinking can be had at laid-back local favorites, like Uncle Jimmy’s in Oakland, Gooski’s in Polish Hill, Hemingway’s Café in Oakland, and the Squirrel Hill Café.

Live bands, DJs, and dancing can be found all around the city in converted warehouses, factories, and old churches. Located on Pittsburgh’s South Side, Matrix and Diesel offer the quintessential club experience: thumping, loud, and full of energy. Major label acts play at the city’s larger (Post-Gazette Pavilion) and smaller (Mr. Small’s) venues, while local and regional artists flock to nightclubs, like Club Café, and coffeehouses, like the Beehive. Pittsburgh also offers amusing nighttime entertainment at South Side’s Funny Bone Comedy Club and the Waterfront’s Improv, as well as a chance at lady luck at the Rivers Casino on the North Shore.
