Board Member Bios


Kathleen Wallach, President

Kathleen attended the University of Notre Dame where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Political Science with a minor in Chinese. After graduation, she worked at Federated Investors Inc as an associate research analyst in the Municipal Bond Fund Group. Kathleen is pursuing concentrations in Finance, Economics, and Strategy at Tepper, and this summer she will be working at Ernst & Young LLP as a consultant in their Financial Services Office.

Chintan Desai, Portfolio Manager, Tepper Opportunity Fund

Chintan Desai attended Georgetown University where he majored in Finance and Operations & Information Management. He worked for three years as an investment banking analyst at Rothschild Inc., a global investment bank, where he focused on the energy sector. In order to learn the intricacies of the energy sector through the lens of an operator, Chintan joined Osaka Gas, a Japanese utility. He worked for two years as a business development associate, and was responsible for helping Osaka Gas grow its business in North America by evaluating and recommending various investment opportunities. Chintan aspires to be in a portfolio management position at a value-oriented hedge fund.


Christopher Kutney

Christopher has spent the majority of his post-undergraduate career working as an international development consultant in Madagascar. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 2008-2009 before being evacuated, and then remained working in the country as a project manager at a non-profit start-up. After returning from abroad, Chris worked as a financial analyst for MillerCoors and plans to continue his career in finance upon graduating from Tepper. Christopher earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he double-majored in Political Science and History.


Sam Gerber, VP Alumni Relations

Sam holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Public Policy from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. Prior to coming to Tepper, he was an Assistant VP in Institutional Equity Sales at FBR Capital Markets in Washington, DC where he worked with Institutional Investors in Chicago, Denver and New York. Returning to his hometown to pursue an MBA, Sam is focusing on Finance, Economics and Strategy at Tepper. In addition to serving as VP Alumni Relations of Alpha, he is the VP of Asset Management for the Graduate Finance Association, VP of Alumni Relation/Corporate Development for the Tepper Energy Clubs and is on the board of the Tepper Opportunity Fund. Sam enjoys playing any sport, skiing and rooting for any Pittsburgh sports team.


Ted Lee, VP of Communications

Ted Lee is a New York native that attended the University of Rochester where he majored in both economics and English. He worked in financial operations at AllianceBernstein and Knight Capital Group during the height of the financial crisis and has gained a deep appreciation of how the financial markets affect global economies. He has a passion for understanding the markets and discussing investment ideas. He will be spending his Summer in Seattle as a Senior Financial Analyst intern at Amazon.


Kaijie Hu, VP of Treasury

Kaijie holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Economics from the University of Virginia. Prior to enrolling in Tepper’s MBA program, Kaijie worked 8 years in the R&D defense contracting space. He specialized in creating targeted expert systems for data mining and data extraction purposes while supporting various US Intelligence agencies. He got interested in investing and manages his own portfolio using index correlation and cointegration techniques. Kaijie will be interning at State Street Global Advisors this summer as part of the Quantitative Equity Research team.

Qing Zong, VP for MSCF, New York

Qing is the MSCF representative from the Pittsburgh campus in Alpha Club. Prior to life in MSCF, she joined the graduate training program in an investment bank and worked in a pricing and electronic trading team as a technology analyst after obtaining her degree in engineering. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new places with friends and often marking her ‘destinations-to-visit’ list by chatting with people she met. She aims to get more classmates from the MSCF program involved in club activities and help with their career search in the asset management industry during her time in the Alpha club.

Akram Ayyash, VP for MSCF, New York

Akram graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked at Chrysler after that in the power train systems group. There he modeled and optimized engine performance by desigining experiments and analyzing data. As his interest in finance grew, he decided to leverage this skill set on Wall Street, and thus decided to move to NYC and enroll in the MSCF program at Tepper. He accepted an offer at BNP for sales/structuring in credit and FX.
