Carnegie Mellon competitions provide an excellent forum for students to step outside the classroom and get a taste of what is needed to make a successful presentation that convinces investors to consider their venture. The following competitions are high-caliber events that put participants in front of expert entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. The Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship strongly believes its students should pursue experiential learning opportunities; these competitions are ideal examples of such an opportunity.
The McGinnis Venture Competition, a three round competition, gives students the opportunity to develop and pitch their ideas to professional entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. The competition is open to all Carnegie Mellon undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students.
The Tepper Venture Challenge is an annual internal business plan competition for undergraduate students hosted by the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Association.
The Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) is an annual competition where the students are the investors and real entrepreneurs pitch to them. The Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club will host the 2013 competition on February 1. This competition is open to Carnegie Mellon graduate students only.
