U.S. Commerce Secretary Bryson Addresses Innovation Community at Carnegie Mellon

             PITTSBURGH- Leaders and faculty from the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship, including director Arthur A. Boni, the John R. Thorne chair of entrepreneurship and associate teaching professor of entrepreneurship, and associate director, Dave Mawhinney, assistant teaching professor of entrepreneurship, joined local Tepper School alumni and stakeholders from the CMU innovation community in welcoming U.S. Commerce Secretary and former CEO John Bryson to campus today.

            The Secretary, who was recently named by the President to co-chair the White House Office of Manufacturing Policy to help better coordinate policy across the entire administration, gave brief remarks regarding the Department of Commerce’s focus on supporting American manufacturers so they are able to build their products in America and sell them everywhere around the globe.  He also praised the work of Carnegie Mellon University, its research centers, faculty and business partners in working to bring new technology into the marketplace.               In 2010, Carnegie Mellon University and Innovation Works, Inc. were announced as one of the winning teams of the i6 challenge, an innovation competition led by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), in partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).  The i6 Challenge seeks to identify and support the nation’s best ideas for technology commercialization and entrepreneurship.
