Dr. Neumann will discuss urban redevelopment in Pittsburgh and Hamilton, Ontario, as a model of the transition from industrial to post-industrial cities in advanced capitalist countries after World War II. She will discuss the mutual relationship between post-industrial place-making and neoliberal urbanism. Her talk will also focus on the structure of public-private partnerships, the marginalization of blue-collar workers in civic life, and the physical redevelopment of Pittsburgh.
