TEPPER SCHOOL EXPERT: UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FUELS PITTSBURGH’S RISE TO TOP VC RANKINGS
WHO: Art Boni, Director of the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship, holds the John R. Thorne Chair of Entrepreneurship, and teaches entrepreneurship at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon.
WHAT: Boni offers comments/perspective on new study by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, National Venture Capital Association and Thomson Financial that ranks Pittsburgh No. 1 in the country for growth in venture capital investment over past 10 years and No. 2 for growth in number of VC-funded companies over the same time period.
According to Professor Boni, involvement by Pittsburgh’s research universities in developing new technologies and aggressively launching new companies helps to create the critical mass for attracting new venture capital to the region.
WHY: Boni directs the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School, hosting March 13-15 the 5th annual McGinnis Venture Competition, attracting student teams from 23 of the world’s top MBA schools to compete for up to $142,000 in cash and business services.
