As the new cohort of Tepper School of Business MBA candidates arrived on campus, they had the opportunity to step into an exciting new experience and an immersive preparatory program: Tepper BaseCamp. This unique three-week program gives students a robust head start on success in the Tepper MBA program and focuses on preparing them for their summer internship search.
BaseCamp, launched in 2011 in response to the ever-changing business landscape, addresses both analytic and leadership skill sets. The program was designed to provide students the ability to connect with fellow classmates, faculty, alumni, and corporations.
The highlight of the BaseCamp program is Tepper Team Day, held at Camp Guyasuta in the woodlands of Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. Team Day incorporates a series team-building exercises and networking to create a strong bond among the incoming class. The event includes several activities that motivate the class to work together and communicate, including rope courses, obstacle courses, zip lines, and more.
Corporations are also invited to participate in these events through sponsorship opportunities. Tepper Team Day 2015 was generously sponsored by Air Products.
In addition to these off-site team building exercises, BaseCamp features sessions on ethics, diversity and working in teams. BaseCamp also serves as a launch pad for the students’ involvement with the Accelerate Leadership Center.
Other valuable skills addressed during BaseCamp include mathematics mastery, ethics, leadership and networking.
Finally, the students participate in modules that explore the various functional areas of the Tepper MBA program and demonstrate how these areas integrate within companies and organizations. The modules are geared toward industries in which Tepper MBA candidates typically seek employment, including operations, marketing, finance, consulting and entrepreneurship.
These modules assist in career planning with a broad understanding of the numerous options for internships, employment, companies, functions and roles, and include presentations by faculty, alumni and the Tepper Career Opportunities Center.
