Healthcare Award Given to Tayur and Two Co-Authors

Sridhar R. Tayur, Ford Distinguished Research Chair and professor of operations management at the Tepper School of Business, on Nov. 4 received a prestigious healthcare application award in the academic community of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

Tayur along with co-authors Baris Ata of the University of Chicago and transplant surgeon Anton Skaro of Northwestern University were presented the 2015 Pierskalla Best Paper Award at the INFORMS meeting in Philadelphia. The award, part of the Healthcare Application Society sponsored session at INFORMS, was for their paper “OrganJet: Overcoming Geographical Disparities in Access to Deceased Donor Kidneys in the United States.”

Tayur is the founder and CEO while Ata serves as chief scientist for OrganJet, a group that provides advisory and transport services for kidney- and liver-transplant candidates across the United States.

A year ago, Tepper School colleague Soo-Haeng Cho, associate professor of operations management, received the 2014 Pierskalla award from INFORMS for research – conducted with co-authors that included John Turner, Ph.D. ’10, of the University of California-Irvine – that helped to design South Korea’s healthcare network.

Tayur is one of several faculty members to win recent research awards. Other awardees include: Gérard Cornuéjols, Fatma Kılınç-Karzan, Param Vir Singh and John Hooker.
