The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer William S. Demchak will deliver keynote remarks to Ph.D., MBA and Masters of Science in Computational Finance graduates at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business Diploma Ceremony on Saturday, May 17. The event will begin with a processional at 2 p.m. in the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood.
“We are delighted to have Bill participate in this year’s ceremony recognizing our Ph.D. and master’s degree graduates,” said Robert M. Dammon, dean of the Tepper School of Business and professor of finance. “He has earned a high-level of respect throughout the financial community and his leadership has been an example of stability and forward-thinking amidst challenging economic conditions. Since taking office at his current post, he has advanced PNC’s outstanding relationship with our school — furthering cutting-edge research that will help to develop and improve banking services for future consumers.”
The Tepper School of Business is home to the PNC Center for Financial Services Innovation. Created in January 2013, the center integrates faculty, research and intellectual capital from across the Carnegie Mellon campus to examine how technological innovations can be utilized toward offering new safe and secure options, such as online banking, for the financial services industry.
Demchak joined PNC in 2002 as chief financial officer. In July 2005, he was named head of PNC's Corporate & Institutional Banking responsible for PNC's middle market and large corporate businesses, as well as capital markets, real estate finance, equity management and leasing. Demchak was promoted to senior vice chairman in 2009 and named head of PNC businesses in August 2010. He was elected president in April 2012, chief executive officer in April 2013 and chairman in April 2014.
Graduation events will take place from Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18. Carnegie Mellon’s 117th Commencement will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 18 in Gesling Stadium on the university’s Pittsburgh campus. Alumnus and university trustee Jeffrey Housenbold, president and CEO of Shutterfly, Inc., will deliver keynote remarks.
