BIOGRAPHY

Willem-Jan van Hoeve is the Carnegie Bosch Associate Professor of Operations Research at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on developing new methodologies for solving discrete optimization problems, and the application of those methods to real-world problems. He has made notable contributions to the area of constraint programming, hybrid optimization methods, and most recently to the development of a novel framework for discrete optimization based on decision diagrams. He published over 40 academic articles, and co-authored the book “Decision Diagrams for Optimization”. Van Hoeve’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and two Google Faculty Research Awards. He has consulted for a variety of companies including Charter Steel, Chevron, AIMMS, PNC Bank, Bosch/Siemens, BP, and several more. In addition, Van Hoeve received the Tepper School's MBA Teaching Award twice, and heads the Master of Science in Business Analytics program.
