Where I Live

Southside - I live with my partner in a house we bought in the Southside Slopes (southwest of campus, 20 minute bike-ride.) We bought a beautiful older home that was recently renovated throughout and has a fantastic view of the entire city. Additionally, we are within walking distance to all the best restaurants, bars, cafes, and tattoo parlors on Carson St. On the Sunday of Welcome Weekend we discovered our future home online. We stopped by the Open House later that afternoon and then worked with a Realtor from Howard Hanna to put in a offer.

Best Place To Eat

Living in the Southside, we are very fortunate to be living within walking distance of an amazing assortment of restaurants, from fine dining all the way down to dive bars with delicious pub grub. Outside of Southside, we've also discovered a great mix of ethnic restaurants scattered throughout the city.

Best Grocery Store

Right by Nature in The Strip District is our favourite grocery store in the city. Its an independent grocery store that is the local equivalent of Whole Foods and its convenient location in The Strip means lots of other great shopping is available near by.

Best Way to Exercise

I'm a huge hockey fan and try to get out and play as often as I can. The Tepper guys and gals have gotten together for some pick-up now and then in Scheneley Park, but I was lucky enough to play with the CMU Club team over the winter that included travel in and around Pittsburgh.

My Recommendation

We had been talking about getting a dog for a long time, and moving into a house with a backyard has allowed us to rescue a puppy from an independent shelter in Pittsburgh called Animal Friends. This is an extremely well run facility and has proven to be a great resource, even for current pet owners. Also, the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society offers fantastic obedience classes and further training.
