MBA Course Requests
For Carnegie Mellon University Graduate Students
The process listed on this page applies to Carnegie Mellon University graduate students (those other than Tepper School graduate students).
As a Carnegie Mellon graduate student you may take a maximum of four Tepper School courses (24 units) throughout your academic career. The Tepper School of Business MBA program requires that as a Carnegie Mellon graduate student, you have your advisor and faculty approval for all Tepper School courses. Please complete the following steps in the following order so that your request is handled in a timely manner.
Mozilla Firefox is the preferred browser. This is a request system. You are not enrolled until all four steps are completed. Start with Step 1: Students read the policy, log in and log your request.
The four step process:
Log your request for all interested courses. You can take up to two courses per mini and up to four courses throughout your academic career. Review the list of available courses.
Your advisor will receive a link, where he/she can approve or deny your request.
You can check the status of your request by logging in to the request system. If the course is visible, your advisor has not yet approved it. It is your responsibility to make sure that your request is approved by the Tepper School’s deadlines, which differ from the university’s.
It is your responsibility to contact the faculty teaching each course to seek approval for registration to join the course. Once you have faculty approval, you must forward the approval to firstname.lastname@example.org or Marilyn Hersh at email@example.com.
It is your responsibility to ensure that there are enough allowable units on your schedule (SIO) to accommodate the units to be added from the Tepper School.
After advisor and faculty approval have been received, you will be placed on the internal Tepper School roster or waitlist. You will receive an automatic email regarding your status. Approximately two business days after receiving the email from “add/drop”, check the SIO. If the course appears on the SIO, you are successfully registered. If you do not see the course after three business days, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Should you need to drop a Tepper School class, you must do so by sending email to email@example.com OR Marilyn Hersh at firstname.lastname@example.org by the Tepper School add/drop deadline. If a class is dropped after the deadline, the class will count as one of the four courses you are permitted to take throughout your academic career.
