GET TO KNOW ADRIENNE

Full-time Tax Accountant. Professionally Balanced. Inspired.

I was born in Bellevue, Washington, but moved to New York City and eventually to Livingston, New Jersey. I always knew I wanted to be in business, and grew to like accounting through classes I took in high school. I chose to attend the University of Pittsburgh because I really liked the city of Pittsburgh and the undergraduate business program. I graduated with a degree in accounting and marketing with a minor in Chinese.

During undergrad, I studied abroad in Munich, Germany and was active in community service and international business clubs. Right after graduation, I found a job at the Bank of New York Mellon as an income/tax specialist.

After two years and a promotion, I felt that I had already learned the extent of the job’s responsibilities and decided to start looking for other opportunities for growth. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go back to school to get my MBA. Around the time I was waiting to hear back from the Tepper School, I applied to a few jobs that were more directly related to accounting. Bayer interviewed and offered me a new job as a tax accountant at the same time my education at the Tepper School began. It’s been a hectic first year, but I have found it extremely rewarding.

YOUR LIFE + TEPPER

My Tepper School experience has been a whirlwind so far, with starting a new job and grad school at the same time. It has really helped push me to realize what I can accomplish in a short amount of time. It can get stressful trying to balance a plethora of responsibilities, but I always find motivation looking at my fellow classmates. I am trying to balance work, school, club activities and a personal life, but I can turn around and look at someone else doing the same things while also working on case competitions and raising a newborn baby. It has helped me focus, prioritize and test my limits (sometimes at the expense of sleep), and it has helped guide me to try things I didn’t think I had the skills to do. My experience at the Tepper School has been great because of the support that I have from family, friends, staff at the school and new friends that I have made at my time in the program.
