Rodrigo Varas graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (U.N.A.M.), Mexico City with a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science. His exposure to probability peeked his interest in the applications of probability to finance. He interned in the Central Bank of Mexico, where he assisted senior analysts to calibrate and develop market and credit risk models in the foreign exchange reserves’ investment. Two years later, Rodrigo became Head of that office. Among his duties were mentoring his team and supervising daily risk management activities and projects to enhance the tools to measure risk and trading strategies. His most relevant projects developed in the Bank were the reserves diversification project, devoted to creating a more dynamic strategy and a more sophisticated investment profile. This further motivated Rodrigo to join the MSCF program and continue to develop his quantitative skills in trading and risk management.
