Course Description


A writing course specifically designed for third-year Economics majors and additional majors. Students gain experience with technical writing techniques and skills needed for both their senior thesis and their eventual professional careers. The course emphasizes both individual and group projects. (Seminar, 3 hours). Minimum grade of "C" required in all economics pre-requisite courses.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, students should be able to:
  1. Analyze the relevance and quality of multiple sources in a variety of formats and apply and integrate those sources into an analytical discussion;
  2. Demonstrate through writing and oral presentations the ability to articulate sound knowledge of general economic principles;
  3. Provide constructive verbal and written responses and feedback to the presentations and written work of your peers;
  4. Identify and understand the multiple and relevant audiences for a text and develop and target that text accordingly;
  5. Exhibit the capability to write using the conventions of standard written English in relation to grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and
  6. Craft and apply appropriate questions in relation to a current economic issue and unpack a discussion of that issue with focus, clarity, insight, and grace.
